I have had Migraine headaches since I was about 13. I am 29 now and for the last 9 months I have had them so severe that they are interupting my life. Family, work etc… I have been on dozens of medications, plus oxygen therapy for them with no success. Know my doctor wants to do Botox injections. My Insurance company has agreed to pay for them. But I am kind of reluctant to do it because of the side effects. I work as a nurse practitioner, and have several physicans as friends. But none of us has really heard much about Botox for Migraines. I found a couple of case studies on the web, but the were pretty skechy about the details. Has any one had it done ? Or know someone who has? Or any place I might find more information about it. I really want to find out if it works. I am getting pretty desperate for relief and get back to my life.
Thanks Much!
Kali
Hi Kali, I don’t know much about migraines, but I do know pain and the willingness to try almost anything to help myself.
But I don’t believe that anything involving Botox has been tested enough to know the long term side effects. Please just make sure that you know everything that there is to know, cause Botox scares me!!
P.S. I reported Jakal, as I hope you did too
There is a new development in migraine therapy: http://www.neurologyreviews.com/feb04/nr…
We have treated 15 – 20 yrs cases.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves’ juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.

Yes I have heard of this. My neurologist asked me a few months ago if I would be willing to try the Botox shot for my migraines. He told me that a few other patients have had great success with these shots. But he also informed me that some had no relief. Instead I opted for other treatments which have been working. I took Fiorcet and Zanaflex. I had to do it rugularly for about a month before I got real relief but now I do not have to take either of them everyday. What I do is on days that I start to feel even the slightest head pain, I start with the Fiocet then a little later take a Zanaflex. On those days I average 4 Zanaflex and 2-3 Fiorcet. Seems to be working for me.
I heard some folks chatting about something similar lately. It sounds more effective on tension headaches though. Or pretend you didn’t read this and go for the placebo approach. I’m assuming you’ve tried the caffeine approaches (not coffee). (:
My daughter’s neurologist (she is 12) wanted her to have botox injections for her migraines (that can last for days).He even said that if we could get the botox approved by the insurance company he would wave his fee. A few days before she was supposed to start the treatments, a nurse at her doctors called our insurance company was told that botox was not approved has a treatment and they refused to pay for it . We are in the process of appealing this decision. I hope and pray everything goes well for you. Good Luck!!!!
Botox is used to make lines or wrinkles between the eye brows look better. It only lasts for a short time and i haven’t heard of it being used against headaches…
