I’ve been hearing that nurses don’t like to work in places that use med techs. They feel they have to much responsibility and too little training. Have you found that to be true?

Good question!!
We use medication techs where I work (in a nursing home), and some of the nurses feel that these employees don’t understand drug interaction and the possible effects on the body enough to administer drugs. They do feel that they have too much responsibility, but are happy to get any help when we are short staffed.
Many also complain that it created more work for them when they are working with a med tech rather than a nurse, because they have to take care of the med-techs dressings, IV’s, and tube feedings, while an LPN would be able to apply dressing, etc herself. Med techs are becoming a necessary evil in long term care, as the nursing shortage becomes greater, and those with an RN /LPN license don’t want to work in a nursing home.
Question for you: Are they using med techs in hospitals anywhere? I have only heard of them being used in nursing homes. Just curious.
Sorry don’t know what a med tech is. Can you describe their duties? Perhaps they go by another name at my hospital.
never heard about a med tech. As an RN, I will take any help I can get. I don’t care who it is, ok, yes i do care. But seriously…..never heard of that.
Well in my experience some nurses are great with the techs especially if that tech has been around a while or a Vet and that nurse is also a Vet. It seems like the worse ones are the ones that use to be techs. They seem to sit around while the patient is wet or dirty and wil ltell the tech when they come back that the patient needs to be clean i have seen patients sit for 30 mins in vomit because the tech wasnt around to clean them. I have seen techs suggest something about a patients care and get shot down because you are just a tech and the pcc and directors back them up or after that patient codes they ask the tech why wasnt this done like the tech is responsible or when the patient is cryin in pain and the nurse says its not time yet instead of calling the Dr cause this person is cryin in pain. Thats why the best places to work are the EC and ICU’s because team work is big there.
