Is it possible for a pregnant woman to get a teeth brace on the NHS for cosmetic reasons? I thought that NHS only covered medical problems.

The NHS doesn’t cover braces for adults OR children if they are for purely cosmetic reasons. You have to have significant problems with the occlusion of your teeth (the “bite”) or severely misaligned teeth.
The NHS uses the IOTN to determine whether people qualify for NHS orthodontics. For a description of the IOTN and sample pictures of cases which would or would not qualify, check this link.http://www.dentalgain.org/orthodontics.h…

NO! If a child is refereed to an orthodontist and he/she thinks that their case is not severe enough to warrant orthodontic treatment, then they wont get it on the NHS!
The same applies for adults, regardless of them being pregnant!
To be honest why should the NHS have to pay for somebody to have this kind of treatment if it is not absolutely necessary and purely cosmetic!
Excuse me Nursie, I am also a dental nurse and also pay my Taxes and National insurance and am intitiled to my opinion!
Your right everybody is entitiled to NHS treatment, but when you start straying into the cosmetic side of things that are for appearance sake and not clincally essential why should the NHS have to foot the bill?

I thought the comment made by Highbury gal was very rude. My husband pays 40% tax, this is the highest amount of tax in the UK, most of which goes to “paying for other people to have NHS treatment” we are all entitiled to have NHS treatment. Its funny how the people who pay hardly any tax at all moan about people using the NHS!!
Unfortunatly a pregnant woman would not be able to get braces on the NHS.

Braces during pregnancy isn’t a problem, but NHS might not cover it for other reasons all together.

Some dentists would and others wouldn’t, you would need to ask your dentist.
